Preview of the Large Oil Drilling Service Provider Case Study

New ICD Design Eliminates Need for Washpipe, Trims 24 Hours from North Sea Project, and Saves USD 800,000

SLB worked with a large oil drilling service provider that needed to complete an extended-reach, highly deviated offshore Norway well requiring sand control. The challenge was that running standard inflow control devices with washpipe in a 14,682-ft measured-depth, 90° deviated well with a 4,921-ft openhole section would be difficult, costly, and risky.

SLB recommended the new ResFlow CV check-valve ICD, which eliminated the need for washpipe and was run successfully to total depth. The well was completed with zero NPT, and the operator saved 24 hours and about USD 800,000 in rig time and service-related costs.
