MUDSOLV NG Service Dissolves Filtercake to Avoid Coiled Tubing Acid Intervention UAE

SLB worked with Offshore UAE Drilling Company, an offshore operator in Abu Dhabi, to drill long horizontal wells and completely remove filtercake without relying on coiled tubing acid stimulation, which was not practical for the extended-reach completions. The company needed a way to clean up the reservoir drill-in fluid filtercake during completion while drilling openhole sections of up to about 10,000 ft horizontally.

SLB deployed its MUDSOLV NG service using FLOPRO NT fluid with the D-STROYER breaker and the BREAKDOWN HD system to dissolve the polymer, starch, and calcium carbonate components of the filtercake in situ. The approach enabled record-breaking well depths and successful completion deployment, and the wells produced above expectations; in one case acid stimulation was cancelled entirely, while in another it was replaced by a slightly acidic brine, and the operator later standardized the solution across 26 extended-reach wells with horizontal sections exceeding 10,000 ft.
