A SLB Case Study
Montage Resources, an oil and gas operator in Ohio, USA, was dealing with poor zonal isolation and severe channeling behind casing in multistage horizontal wells, which was hurting fracturing efficiency. SLB evaluated the issue and recommended using its Fulcrum cement-conveyed frac performance technology along with the Isolation Scanner cement evaluation service.
SLB helped Montage Resources cement two wells conventionally and two neighboring wells with Fulcrum added to the cement to react with leftover drilling fluid. The Fulcrum wells showed better bonding and isolation on both impedance and sonic measurements, and during stimulation they achieved an average 800-psi higher breakdown pressure than the conventionally cemented wells, indicating improved stage-to-stage isolation and more efficient fracture placement.
