A SLB Case Study
Minnkota Power Cooperative partnered with SLB to advance Project Tundra, an effort to retrofit a North Dakota power plant for carbon capture and storage. The challenge was to evaluate a potential CO2 storage reservoir, characterize injectivity and containment, and gather the subsurface data needed to support future Class VI injection well permitting.
SLB implemented an integrated reservoir characterization workflow using tools and services including CMR-Plus, Saturn 3D radial probe, InSitu Fluid Analyzer, Sonic Scanner, MDT, Quanta Geo, and Isolation Scanner. The team acquired petrophysical, fluid, geomechanical, and cement integrity data to build a calibrated mechanical earth model and define storage, caprock, and injection-zone boundaries. The work matched well with existing log and injection-test data, established a baseline for well integrity, and created a standard workflow to support secure CO2 storage and future permitting.
