Case Study: Offshore Qatar Operating Company restores gas-tight well integrity and avoids sidetrack with SLB Casing Reconnect

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Offshore Qatar Operating Company Case Study

Metal-to-metal solution helps restore well integrity for gas lift, offshore Qatar

SLB worked with Offshore Qatar Operating Company, which had shut in a gas-lifted offshore well in Qatar after a leaking 9⅝-in casing hanger seal and corroded casing section threatened well integrity. The operator wanted to avoid a costly sidetrack and needed a gas-tight repair that could support the planned 2,000-psi injection pressure and last for the life of the well.

SLB used the Casing Reconnect metal-to-metal, gas-tight casing repair system to reconnect the cut casing string, replace the failed seal, and restore the wellhead and casing integrity. The operation ran with zero NPT, the well passed a 500-psi low-pressure test and then a 2,500-psi pressure test for 30 minutes, and the sidetrack contingency was avoided.
