Metal-to-Metal Sealing Technology Solves Challenge of Installing 3,604-m Casing in Unstable Wellbore

SLB worked with North Sea Operating Company, which needed to run 3,604 m of 9 5/8-in casing to surface in an unstable Norwegian North Sea wellbore while minimizing nonproductive time. The long casing string and openhole section made it difficult to ream and complete the well in one run.

SLB proposed a liner-and-tieback approach using Metalmorphology metal-to-metal sealing and anchoring technology. The operator ran the lower section as a liner, then tied it back to surface with a gas-tight, V0-certified connection, achieving full casing integrity to surface with zero NPT and saving an estimated 5 days of rig time.
