Case Study: Indonesia Deepwater Drilling Company achieves balanced production in an ERD well with SLB completion technologies

MeshSlot XL Screens and ResFlow ICDs Control Variable Permeability and Exceed Expectations in ERD Wells

SLB worked with Indonesia Deepwater Drilling Company to help develop undeveloped deepwater oil reserves offshore Indonesia using an extended-reach-drilling sand-face completion. The challenge was to produce from a field with highly variable permeability and low pore pressure along the lateral, while dealing with deepwater conditions and the need for kickoff points very near the mudline.

SLB designed a completion using MeshSlot XL four-layer premium sintered mesh screens, ResFlow inflow control devices, oil-swellable packers, and an MFIV mechanically controlled formation isolation valve. The system balanced inflow across heterogeneous zones, reduced plugging and erosion risk, and helped the well produce at or above expectations with minimal solids; the well was also completed ahead of schedule, under budget, and without incident.
