Case Study: Japan based operating company extends methane gas production with SLB's Maximus system

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Japan Based Operating Company Case Study

Maximus System Produces Gas from Methane Hydrates for 24 Days

SLB worked with a Japan Based Operating Company that needed to extend natural gas production from methane hydrates in a challenging riserless, instrumented deepwater well offshore Japan. The operator needed a solution that could handle gas separation, reservoir monitoring, harsh sand conditions, and an ESP operating at very low temperatures.

SLB designed and operated a custom upper completion using the REDA Maximus electric submersible pump system, WellWatcher Quartz Extend gauges, and the WellNet communication system. The solution enabled production of about 35,000 m3 of methane gas for 12 days from one well and about 200,000 m3 over 24 days from another, while also achieving the first open-water ESP deployment and successful installation without drilling risers.
