MagniSphere service improves data accuracy and well placement while slimhole drilling

SLB worked with a major operator in the Middle East that needed better well placement in complex carbonate and clastic reservoirs. The company faced the challenge of acquiring high-quality real-time NMR data while drilling, especially in slimhole wells and in environments with lateral vibration, shock, and different mud systems. SLB used its MagniSphere high-definition NMR logging-while-drilling service to address these requirements.

SLB deployed MagniSphere to simultaneously acquire T1 and T2 distributions in real time, improving characterization of pore sizes, permeability, and fluid types such as light oil, heavy oil, tar, and water. The service also improved tolerance to lateral motion and delivered continuous, high-quality LWD NMR data across multiple wells and field conditions, enabling more accurate petrophysical evaluation and well placement while drilling.
