A SLB Case Study
Eni worked with SLB to find a cost-effective, regulator-approved way to document top of cement in 17 high-angle, extended-reach offshore Alaska wells. The challenge was meeting state requirements for cement evaluation in a difficult borehole while avoiding expensive and time-consuming wireline operations.
SLB used its sonicVISION sonic-while-drilling service to identify top of cement while tripping, with the data validated against a wireline USI ultrasonic imager run on the first well. After the method was accepted by the local regulatory agency, Eni could avoid an 18-hour tractor-conveyed wireline cement log on each well, saving an estimated USD 2.6 million across the 17-well program, and SLB’s solution was then used for the remaining wells.
