LWD Thin-Bed Analysis Identifies 60% More Deepwater Reserves

SLB worked with Africa Deepwater Drilling Company on a deepwater well offshore Africa, where the team needed to evaluate thinly bedded sandstone reservoirs and identify potential pay zones within complex laminated sand–shale sequences. The challenge was to determine reservoir quality and porosity in a setting where conventional evaluation was difficult.

SLB used the proVISION Plus magnetic resonance while drilling service, together with integrated volumetrics and thin-bed analysis, to characterize the reservoir in a single run. The solution identified two additional laminated sand–shale pay zones, logged high-quality petrophysical data, and increased calculated reserves by 60%, also helping optimize perforation interval selection and completion design.
