SLB worked with Renaissance Offshore LLC, which needed to rapidly evaluate formation properties, identify the oil/water contact, and choose the best completion interval while drilling development wells in the Gulf of Mexico. The challenge was a thinly laminated, low-resistivity reservoir in an oil-based mud environment where borehole instability limited decision time and conventional triple-combo logs were not enough.

SLB recommended combining the TerraSphere high-definition dual-imaging-while-drilling service with the EcoScope multifunction logging-while-drilling service to deliver real-time logs, images, spectroscopy, sigma, and resistivity data. This approach enabled quick interpretation of reservoir structure, texture, fluid content, and OWC, helping confirm hydrocarbon sands, evaluate movable fluid, and optimize the completion interval; Renaissance Offshore LLC was pleased with the timely reservoir understanding and improved completion design.
