Lukoil Saves USD 6.8 Million Using First Extended-Reach Intelligent TAML 5 Multilateral Well

Lukoil worked with SLB to address major production challenges in a thin oil rim in the Caspian Sea, where a narrow reservoir sat between an active gas cap and a water zone. The company needed to improve drainage, maximize production, and control pressure and temperature while being able to choke off lateral production separately to delay early water and gas breakthrough.

SLB implemented an integrated extended-reach intelligent TAML 5 multilateral well solution using drilling, cementing, completion, and intelligent control technologies, including the RapidX junction, WellWatcher Quartz gauges, and TRFC-HD flow control valves. The result was a first-of-its-kind intelligent multilateral well drilled with zero NPT that increased productivity, delayed catastrophic gas breakthrough, and saved Lukoil USD 6.8 million by avoiding an additional well.
