LUKOIL Reduces Section Construction Time by 80% with Direct XCD Drillable Alloy Casing Bit

Lukoil was drilling in the Bayandyskoye field, where unstable, swelling shale and high levels of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide made well construction difficult and costly. To improve efficiency and reduce drilling time, Lukoil worked with SLB and used the Direct XCD drillable alloy casing bit as part of a casing-drilling strategy.

SLB’s Direct XCD bit enabled Lukoil to ream and case to 2,671 m (8,763 ft) TD in a single run in just 4 days, compared with 20 days for the previous well. The result was 16 days saved, elimination of a dedicated drillout run, and improved wellbore stability by plastering cuttings into the borehole wall.
