A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a large oil drilling service provider in Southern Pakistan that was drilling a new well through a weak formation and dealing with severe mud losses while trying to cement a 7-in liner. Conventional lost circulation materials had been only minimally effective, leaving the operator exposed to further losses and making the cementing job risky in a narrow pore-to-fracture pressure window.
SLB used a Losseal Natural Fracture lost circulation treatment, designed with Lost Circulation Control Advisor software and optimized with CEMENTICS zonal isolation software, as part of the spacer train and cement design. The pill cured the losses, restored returns to surface, recovered about USD 23,000 in mud, and enabled a successful cement job with good bond logs and top of cement at the planned depth, avoiding remedial cementing and saving approximately USD 197,000 more for a total impact of about USD 220,000.
