Losseal Natural Fracture Treatment Saves Operator USD 267,000 After Total WBM Losses Pakistan

SLB worked with a large oil drilling service provider in Pakistan that was struggling with severe lost circulation while drilling an 8½-in open hole section through naturally fractured formation. After partial losses escalated to total mud losses and a required increase in mud weight, the operator could not continue drilling safely or cement the liner without risking further incidents.

SLB used Lost Circulation Control Advisor software to design a Losseal Natural Fracture treatment, a composite pill of fibers and solids that strengthened the formation and controlled losses with a single squeeze pill. The solution enabled drilling to continue, allowed the 7¾-in liner to be cemented as planned, and delivered an estimated USD 267,000 in savings, including about USD 57,000 from reduced mud losses and USD 210,000 from avoiding remedial cementing.
