A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a large oil drilling service provider in Pakistan that needed to cement 9⅝-in casing across a fractured formation after experiencing total losses of oil-based mud. The losses made circulation nearly impossible and created a high-risk situation for the cementing job, with limited options to stabilize the well without damaging the open hole.
SLB used Losseal Natural Fracture lost circulation treatment, supported by Lost Circulation Control Advisor and CEMENTICS software, to design a single-pill solution and optimize the spacer and cement system for the narrow pressure window. The treatment restored returns to surface, recovered about USD 55,000 in mud, and enabled successful cement placement with good bond logs, avoiding remedial cementing and saving an estimated USD 205,000 for a total impact of USD 260,000.
