A SLB Case Study
Lonestar Resources Ltd. worked with SLB to determine whether three Eagle Ford Shale wells landed at different depths were contacting the same bounding units and whether flowback chemistry suggested any risk of scale formation. The company needed a way to characterize fracture placement and scaling tendency during early production, and used SLB’s AvantGuard flowback services for monitoring and analysis.
SLB used AvantGuard Observe flowback transient monitoring and analysis to sample 18 produced-fluid samples and compare geochemical fingerprints across the wells. The results showed similar chemistry in all three wells, indicating fracture contact with the same formations bounded by the upper Austin Chalk and lower Buda Limestone, and only minor scale potential. Predicted scale was limited to calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, and iron carbonate, so scale inhibitor was deemed unnecessary, helping keep chemical costs low.
