Live Downhole Reservoir Testing Determines Potential of a Zone Without Mechanical Intervention Saving Rig Time

SLB worked with Middle East Operating Company to evaluate the middle zone of a multi-zone sandstone reservoir in the Middle East and North Africa. The customer needed to run a drillstem test without relying on annulus pressure pulses, which could be lost because of open perforations in the upper interval, and also had to account for a nonflowing well with low expected reservoir pressure.

SLB recommended the Symphony live downhole reservoir testing string united by Muzic wireless telemetry, including Measure wireless quartz gauges and the Control wireless dual valve. This enabled wireless tool actuation and real-time bottomhole pressure data, allowing the operator to confirm valve operation, avoid mechanical intervention, and end the test after only three days once reservoir pressure was reached, saving rig time and proving the zone’s potential.
