SLB worked with a large oil drilling service provider drilling an 8½-in HPHT exploratory well near the Mumbai High field, where highly fractured, depleted limestone was causing severe partial and total fluid losses. The customer needed a way to mitigate losses before continuing drilling, and SLB proposed using the FORM-A-BLOK AS acid-soluble lost circulation pill.

SLB pumped a 100 bbl pill formulated with 35 lbm/bbl FORM-A-BLOK AS in drill water, which created a porous plug that still allowed the slurry to defluidize while preventing mud from passing through. The result was complete elimination of dynamic losses at 250 galUS/min and prevention of further losses, successfully resolving the wellbore instability issue.
