Kuwait Oil Company Saves 47 Rig Days Using Casing-While-Drilling Service
Kuwait Oil Company worked with SLB to address severe drilling challenges in Kuwait’s Shuaiba Formation, where sloughing shale and fractured limestone had caused total losses, poor hole cleaning, wellbore instability, and stuck pipe in an offset well. These issues drove higher nonproductive time, extra trips, remedial cementing, and increased overall costs.
SLB applied the Allegro XCD-Pro casing-while-drilling service, using risk analysis, customized drillbit design, and drilling parameter optimization to strengthen the wellbore and drill the interval in one run. The 12 1/4-in section with 9 5/8-in casing reached total depth without lost-in-hole BHA events or cement plugs, cutting flat time and saving 47 rig days versus the offset well, with drilling time reduced from 49.6 days to 2.1 days.
