Kuwait Oil Company Saves 4 Drilling Days Using Xplorer Bit with Xplorer Helix Configuration
Kuwait Oil Company worked with SLB to improve drilling performance in a vertical 28-in section through highly interbedded soft and hard limestone, dolomite, anhydrite, and shale. The company needed to raise rate of penetration while avoiding impact-related damage to the bit and maintaining seal and bearing life over a long 4,500-ft interval.
SLB recommended the Xplorer premium roller cone drill bit with Xplorer Helix spiral insert configuration to better withstand impact and drill the section in one trip. The solution increased ROP by 107% over the best in-field rate, drilled 4,480 ft, and saved 4 drilling days, while the bit was pulled out of hole in good condition.
