Kuwait Oil Company Restores Oil Production to 800 bbl/d Using Digital-Slickline-Conveyed Straddle System
Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) needed to locate and isolate a tubing leak in an ESP-completed well that was stopping production and could have required a costly rig workover. SLB, using Peak Well Systems’ leak detection tool and SIM sealing integrity management system conveyed on digital slickline, was brought in to identify the leak depth and restore the well.
SLB deployed a digital-slickline-conveyed straddle system with retrievable bridge plugs and 40 ft of SIM system straddle tubes to isolate the leak and bypass the damaged section. The leak was found within a 9-ft interval, the system was installed in five runs, and production was restored to 800 bbl/d, saving KOC millions of dollars in deferred production and avoiding at least 60 days of shutdown associated with a workover rig.
