A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a large oil and gas company that needed to verify cement placement and identify loss zones in a salt section of a subsalt appraisal well. Conventional cement evaluation methods were unreliable in this environment because of salt creep, losses, compressible synthetic-base mud, and a narrow annulus that complicated pressure interpretation.
SLB used its Invizion Evaluation well integrity evaluation service to integrate openhole, drilling, geomechanics, cementing, and cased-hole log data, then model cement placement more accurately. The analysis confirmed the top of cement at 16,160 ft and identified partial losses at 17,200 ft, correcting the earlier conventional estimate of 18,640 ft and giving the operator clearer guidance to improve future cementing and lost-circulation practices.
