Integrated Well Abandonment System Eliminates Trips, Saves More Than 3 Rig Days

SLB worked with the UK Continental Shelf Operating Company, which needed to mill a window in 9⅝-in casing and underream open hole to enable rock-to-rock barrier placement in a single-trip plug and abandonment operation. The operator wanted to avoid dedicated bottomhole assemblies and the extra rig time required by conventional milling and underreaming runs.

SLB recommended the ProMILL trip-saving milling and underreaming system, which combines a section mill and underreamer in one assembly. The system milled and underreamed 85-ft windows at 9,000 ft MD on three wells in a single trip per well, eliminating extra surface trips and saving more than 24 hours, or over 3 rig days, across the campaign.
