Integrated BHA with StingBlade Bit Drills 24% Faster in Interbedded Formation and Saves 3.5 Days Kuwait

SLB worked with Northern Kuwait Drilling Operating Company to drill a 16-in section in the Sabriyah field of northern Kuwait through hard anhydrite and dolomitic limestone formations that were prone to stick/slip and low rates of penetration. The customer needed to improve drilling performance compared with conventional offset wells and complete the interval faster.

SLB deployed an integrated bottomhole assembly with a StingBlade conical diamond element bit and a Schlumberger performance mud motor, supported by drilling optimization and dynamic analysis tools. The 4,770-ft section was drilled in one run, ROP doubled in the Rus and Radhuma Formations, overall on-bottom ROP improved by 24% versus the fastest offset well, and Northern Kuwait Drilling Operating Company saved 3.5 days versus AFE.
