A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a large oil-based company operating in the Utica Shale to better understand a thinly laminated, naturally fractured reservoir drilled with oil-base mud. The customer needed accurate imaging to map the positions of 85 sidewall cores and identify natural fractures so they could improve formation evaluation, stimulation planning, and completion design.
SLB used its Quanta Geo photorealistic reservoir geology service to image the wellbore in high resolution and create detailed geological images and dip data in OBM. The result was accurate localization of all 85 core plugs, clear identification of the subvertical fracture system, and better calibration of lab data with logs, helping the customer assess reservoir representativeness and the likely hydraulic fracture network.
