A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Eagle Ford Shale to address a high-temperature cement milling challenge in a horizontal 5½-in casing section in DeWitt County, Texas. The operator needed to remove 5,907 ft of cement at a bottomhole temperature of 346 degF, where conventional milling with standard motors and mills would not have been practical in a single trip.
SLB recommended a 4½-in i-MILL TT intervention mill powered by a 3⅜-in Neyrfor TTT thru-tubing turbodrill. The system removed 5,707 ft of cement in one run at an average rate of 60 ft/h, ran for more than 100 hours, and finished the job with acceptable wear. SLB’s approach eliminated about 120 hours of nonproductive time and avoided an estimated 10 trips out of hole compared with conventional milling.
