HydraGlyde System Reduces Costs from Mud Losses by USD 300,000 per Pad

Eagleville Field Operating Company was drilling very long 8½-inch lateral sections in the Eagleville field and needed a water-based mud to avoid the high cost of formation losses associated with oil-based mud, while still managing torque, drag, and rate of penetration. SLB, through M-I SWACO, was brought in to help replace the existing OBM with a high-performance fluid system.

SLB recommended the HydraGlyde high-performance water-based drilling fluid system, formulated with shale inhibitor, encapsulating additive, and lubricant to mimic the performance of OBM. The solution helped the customer avoid an estimated USD 300,000 in mud-loss costs per pad and delivered an average ROP of 86 ft/h across three wells, with one well slower due to severe losses.
