A SLB Case Study
SLB helped an Argentina based operating company drill an exploratory well in the Neuquén Basin while meeting strict HSE and environmental requirements near an aquifer zone. The operator needed stable wellbore conditions for multiple logging runs and formation sampling in the 17½-in and 12¼-in sections, with good mud weight, inhibition, and hole cleaning performance.
SLB implemented the HydraGlyde high-performance water-based drilling fluid system, using potassium sulfate, HydraSpeed primary lubricant, and HydraCap additive to improve lubricity and inhibition. The result was efficient drilling and logging with no hole stability issues, six successful logging runs, more than 85% of the fluid reused between sections, and 1.2 days saved versus AFE; costs were reduced by 2% in the 17½-in section and 14% in the 12¼-in section.
