A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Panyu Operating Company to address declining production in a mature offshore China oil field, where strong bottom water drive had squeezed remaining thin oil-column reserves and made it difficult to locate the oil/water contact. The company needed to drill horizontal wells and place them precisely near the top of the reservoir to reach attic oil while avoiding water production, using real-time logging while drilling support.
SLB used PeriScope bed boundary mapping and adnVISION azimuthal density neutron services to land and geosteer the laterals within a narrow 0.5 m target window below the reservoir top. The first 10 wells averaged 3,188 bbl/d of initial production with only 1% water cut, exceeded the production target by 68%, reversed the field’s decline to growth, and delivered 2.1 million bbl of cumulative incremental oil in six months, 45% above forecast.
