A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a leading operating company in the Utica Shale that was struggling to improve the accuracy of reserves estimates for an unconventional reservoir. Traditional free-plus-adsorbed gas models based on saturation methods and Langmuir isotherms were consistently underestimating gas volume, creating uncertainty around gas in place and reserves confidence.
To address this, SLB deployed the CMR-MagniPHI high-definition NMR service to acquire continuous T1/T2 distributions and provide model-independent evaluation of porosity, fluids, and gas in place. The service enabled more accurate gas volume measurement and boosted reserves estimates by nearly 60 Bcf per section, delivering a better estimate of total gas in place.
