A SLB Case Study
Mabruk Oil Operations worked with SLB to address the challenge of characterizing a highly fractured offshore carbonate reservoir in Libya while reducing the risks of wireline conveyance in extended-reach wells. The company needed detailed images for perforation planning to avoid gas and water breakthrough from faults and open fractures, but severe mud losses and borehole instability made conventional logging difficult.
SLB deployed its MicroScope HD high-resolution imaging-while-drilling service to acquire resistivity images while drilling and validate them against wireline-conveyed images. The LWD images matched wireline quality, delivered 0.4-inch vertical resolution, and enabled fracture-network imaging, borehole stability management, and full sedimentological and structural analysis, giving Mabruk Oil Operations more flexibility and reducing operational risk in future wells.
