A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Los Llanos Field Operating Company in Colombia to address the risk of premature ESP failure in three exploration wells in the Los Llanos field. The customer faced changing well conditions and uncertainty around productivity index, which could make a high-efficiency pump run outside its normal range and shorten run life.
SLB installed high-efficiency REDA ESP systems with a tailored stage design, including a compression pump, factory shimming, a high-strength shaft, and a compliant-mounted radial bearing system to handle downthrust conditions. The systems operated reliably for more than 580 days in Well 1 and continued producing 1,978 bbl/d despite declining PI and higher water cut; the second well ran 503 days and the third exceeded 700 days. By avoiding workovers and rig costs, SLB helped the operator save an estimated USD 170,000 per well, or USD 510,000 across all three wells.
