High-Density, Definitive Dynamic Survey Data Helps Precisely Land Well 10-ft TVD Below Reservoir Top

Saudi Aramco was concerned about wellbore tortuosity in a complex drilling profile, since excessive tortuosity can increase cost, casing wear, stuck pipe risk, and completion issues. To address this challenge, SLB provided the TruLink definitive dynamic survey-while-drilling service to improve survey accuracy and well placement.

Using SLB’s TruLink service, Saudi Aramco received continuous downhole measurements while drilling, enabling real-time steering and eliminating survey-related rig time. The result was a smoother well trajectory with reduced tortuosity and more accurate well placement, including landing the well 10 ft below the reservoir top; the comparison with stationary surveys showed a 10-ft difference in the 8 1/2-in curve section.
