High Build Rate RSS Drills Curve and Lateral of Marcellus Shale Well in One Run and 100% in Zone

Marcellus shale Operating Company wanted to reduce drilling costs and improve efficiency in horizontal wells in the Marcellus Shale. SLB addressed the challenge with the PowerDrive Archer high build rate rotary steerable system, paired with EM telemetry and a shale-optimized Spear PDC drill bit.

SLB drilled the curve and lateral in one run, reaching TD at 11,210 ft without an extra trip. The well stayed 100% in zone, landed just 1 ft to the right and 1 ft above plan, and achieved an average rate of penetration of 128 ft/h, helping the operator improve drilling performance and reduce time in the hole.
