A SLB Case Study
Hess Corporation worked with SLB to address the challenge of acquiring formation fluid samples and pressure measurements in a highly deviated offshore Malaysia wellbore that crossed pressure-depleted zones and carried a risk of differential sticking. The company needed better reservoir-fluid data to support field development, completion, and production planning, and used SLB’s SpectraSphere fluid mapping-while-drilling service.
SLB deployed SpectraSphere to collect reservoir-representative fluid and gas samples plus pressure data in one run, with real-time monitoring of fluid cleanup and downhole conditions. Hess obtained 4 fluid samples, 2 gas samples, and 21 pressure measurements with less than 1% contamination, completed sampling in 2 hours per station, and avoided differential sticking; the work saved 3 days by eliminating additional formation testing in two other wells.
