Groupement Reggane Nord (GRN) Consortium Achieves Record Run, Saves USD 306,000 with StingBlade Bit
SLB worked with Groupement Reggane Nord (GRN) in Algeria to address difficult drilling conditions in the Kahlouche Field, where hard dolerite inclusions were damaging bits, slowing drilling, and forcing repeated trips. The challenge was to improve drilling rate and reduce nonproductive time while drilling through an extremely hard and unpredictable formation.
SLB used the IDEAS integrated design and analysis platform and DBOS drillbit optimization system to select the StingBlade conical diamond element bit for the 8½-in section. The new bit drilled the dolerite interval in a single shoe-to-shoe run, including a 28 m dolerite intrusion, and helped GRN save an estimated USD 306,000 by eliminating trips, improving rate of penetration, and reducing downtime.
