Geobody extraction and seismic attribute analysis reduce facies uncertainty using Petrel Seismic Volume Rendering and Extraction

SLB worked with MOG Energy in Egypt’s East Nile Delta Basin, where the company needed to reduce geological uncertainty in the offshore North Sinai concession. The main challenge was accurately mapping sand and shale facies in Pliocene–Pleistocene gas reservoirs, since facies distribution strongly affects prospect maturation and field development.

Using Petrel Seismic Volume Rendering and Extraction, SLB helped MOG Energy extract high negative-amplitude sand geobodies and positive-amplitude shale trends, then combine them into sand-shale probability maps for two reservoir zones. The resulting maps matched drilling results and improved facies identification, giving MOG Energy a more effective way to reduce geological uncertainty.
