Case Study: Gazprom Neft reduces well construction time with SLB's Direct XCD bit

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Gazprom Neft Case Study

Gazprom Neft Reduces Well Construction Time by an Average of 10 Days with Direct XCD Bit, Russia

Gazprom Neft faced difficult well construction conditions in the Orenburg oil and gas condensate field, where unstable swelling shale formations and field limitations made it hard to drill and case 95/8-in casing sections. SLB worked with Gazprom Neft to evaluate a casing-while-drilling approach using the Direct XCD drillable alloy casing bit.

SLB implemented the Direct XCD bit to run casing while drilling through the unstable formations, helping the operator overcome wellbore stability issues and complete the section efficiently. The result was casing run in 30.7 hours instead of up to 31 days previously, with wells landed in record time and average well construction time reduced by 10 days.
