Gazprom Neft worked with SLB to address drilling challenges in the Tsarichansko-Filatovskoe field in Russia, where 8 11/16-in sections were being drilled through interbedded formations with high UCS, wellbore instability, and severe lost circulation zones. The company needed to reduce trips and improve rate of penetration while drilling these difficult horizontal wells.

SLB optimized drilling performance by customizing StingBlade and AxeBlade diamond element bits for the field, using IDEAS analysis to recommend the best bit placement across the section. The solution saved 27 drilling days across a 12-well campaign, increased average ROP by 46% to 46 ft/h versus third-party bits in 2016, reduced average interval time by 4.6 days, and cut average runs by 37%.
