FoamMAT Service Helps Operator Increase Production 440% in Depleted Russian Wells

SLB worked with a large resource company operating depleted brownfield wells in Russia’s Volga-Ural region, where carbonate formations required stimulation but the operator faced depleted reservoir pressure, difficult flowback, formation heterogeneity, and water cut as high as 60%. The company needed a way to improve productivity and make acidizing more effective in these challenging wells.

SLB recommended and piloted its FoamMAT foam diversion service in seven depleted wells using bullheading placement. The treatment improved acidizing effectiveness and helped restore flow, increasing production by 440% and nearly doubling the gain achieved with conventional matrix acidizing and acid fracturing. The pilot also reduced treatment cost by lowering liquid diverter volume, and the customer later adopted FoamMAT in half of its acidizing jobs.
