SLB worked with a leading Mexico construction company operating offshore Mexico to reduce time and improve efficiency in shallow-water well construction. The company wanted to implement new casing drilling technology in the conductor section of an exploratory well.

SLB used a casing drilling system with the Direct XCD drillable alloy casing bit to drill and case the hole simultaneously and reach total depth in one run. The job achieved the first 30-in casing-drilling run with a 34-in bit, drilled 178 m to 256 m section TD, eliminated a wiper trip, and avoided stuck pipe issues, cutting drilling time by 26.3% and saving 1.31 days versus conventional methods.
