A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Gulf of Mexico Mill Operating Company, an operator in Mobile Bay, Gulf of Mexico, that needed to clean out calcium carbonate and an unknown obstruction from 3½-in production tubing to expose blocked perforations below 22,000 ft in an HPHT well. The well had extreme conditions, including temperatures above 400 degF and more than 30° inclination, and prior cleanup attempts with a high-temperature PDM, impact tool, and jet assembly had not delivered satisfactory results.
SLB recommended the 2⅛-in Neyrfor TTT thru-tubing turbodrill to mill through the scale while acidizing the well. The all-metallic turbodrill handled the harsh temperature and acid environment, milled about 137 ft at 2 ft/min, and maintained excellent condition after 40 bbl of acid and 59 operating hours, successfully exposing the perforations and restoring the well.
