A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with an international oil and gas company drilling a deepwater well in Malaysia that was experiencing severe lost circulation in unconsolidated, faulted zones. In the riserless tophole section, drilling fluid was leaking into the formation, and switching to heavier mud eliminated returns at the seabed, creating major cementing and well-control challenges.
SLB addressed the problem by combining Losseal composite mat pills, CemNET fiber technology, and the DeepCRETE deepwater cementing system to reduce fluid losses and restore circulation. The job reached top of cement close to plan, achieved the expected displacement pressure, provided structural casing support, and avoided remedial cementing; compared with similar failed wells, the operator saved at least 2 days of remedial work and reduced drilling time.
