Extremely Abrasive Colombia Well Produces for 797 Days with a Rugged Maximus ESP System

SLB worked with a Colombia Based Well Producing Company operating in the Llanos field to address severe abrasive sand production that was causing ESP erosion failures, frequent interventions, and choked production. The well’s solids-laden fluids had already destroyed two pumps, with average run life only 72 days, so the customer needed a more rugged artificial lift solution.

SLB installed a REDA Maximus ESP system with 5530 alloy stage metallurgy, tungsten carbide full bearing housing, keyless bearing sleeves, and a shedder retainer, along with a slow startup plan to reduce sand churn. The result was a dramatic increase in ESP run life to 797 days and higher production, from 11,800 bbl/d to 21,000 bbl/d, exceeding the well’s previous peak flow rate while the pump components remained in good condition.
