EverGreen Burner Minimizes Environmental Impact in Heavy Oil Development

SLB worked with a leading heavy oil production company in Saudi Arabia that needed to reduce oil viscosity so it could burn well effluent from an exploration well with a very low gas rate and little liquid-density contrast. The unstable well conditions caused carryover and carryunder, making accurate flow measurement and clean disposal difficult and raising the risk of smoke and fallout.

SLB proposed the EverGreen minimal environmental impact well effluent burner and modified the well test workflow to recirculate the heavy oil with diesel and heat it to lower viscosity before burning. The trial was completed successfully, with the effluent burned efficiently, no smoke or fallout from the monojet configuration, and reduced environmental impact and risk of heavy-oil cooldown in the tanks.
