ERIELL Group Drills 1,308-m Lateral Sidetrack, Saves 4 Days Off Plan in Samburgskoye Field

ERIELL Group worked with SLB to drill a 1,308-m lateral sidetrack in Russia’s Samburgskoye field under difficult conditions, including high stick/slip risk, vibration, and limited rig capabilities. The company needed to maintain directional control while improving drilling efficiency in a challenging Valanginian Formation well.

SLB implemented an integrated drilling solution with PowerDrive Orbit vorteX motorized RSS, a Smith Bits directional PDC drill bit, and the MEGADRIL oil-based drilling fluid system. The result was a 300% increase in footage to 132 m/d and a nearly 400% increase in ROP to 26 m/h, saving 4 days off the drilling plan and enabling ERIELL Group to drill the longest sidetrack in the Samburgskoye oil field.
