Equinor Saves 24 to 56 Hours on Challenging Well Cleanouts

Equinor needed to clean out sand, rocks, and scale from challenging North Sea wells using coiled tubing, but conventional battery-powered downhole tools required frequent battery changes that added time and risk, especially in cold conditions and during weather delays. SLB proposed its ACTive Power CT real-time powered downhole measurements system to provide continuous surface power and eliminate battery dependence.

SLB deployed ACTive Power with ACTive Xtreme CT real-time rugged downhole measurement tools on two difficult cleanout jobs. In Well E, the operation removed 2,960 kg of solids in 256.9 hours and saved an estimated 24 to 32 hours by avoiding battery changes; in Well F, it removed 28,686 kg of scale and sand in 409 hours and saved about 56 hours compared with a battery-based approach, reducing the number of required runs from seven to three.
