Equinor Manages 100% Rise in Troll Field Gas Production Using CONSEPT IVD Diffusers in Scrubber Vessels

Equinor needed to double gas production from the Troll Field in the Norwegian Sector of the North Sea, but its scrubber vessels were originally designed for lower 1995 field performance and could not handle the higher flow or achieve sufficient separation efficiency. SLB addressed this challenge with CONSEPT IVD separator inlet vane diffusers and CONSEPT DC demisting cyclones to retrofit the existing scrubber vessels.

SLB improved flow distribution by replacing the inlet devices with CONSEPT IVD diffusers and boosted separation performance by installing CONSEPT DC cyclones, along with a liquid protection plate to reduce reentrainment. The upgraded system achieved 99.3% scrubber efficiency and liquid carryover well below 0.1 galUS/MMscf, meeting NORSOK requirements and supporting Equinor’s 100% rise in gas production.
